Lobe Pump

A Lobe Pump is a type of pump that uses a rotary lobe mechanism to transfer liquids. It is designed for applications that require high standards of cleanliness and hygiene, such as in the food and beverage, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics industries.

Single Lobe

  • Characteristics: Single lobe with a crescent-shaped design.

  • Applications:

    • Ideal for liquids with particles, such as sauces with small pieces.

  • Advantages:

    • Preserves the quality of the liquid.
    • Capable of pumping viscous liquids.
    • Low flow rate, focusing on accuracy.

Bi-Lobe Rotor

  • Characteristics:

  • Two lobes shaped like a bean.
    Applications:

    • Ideal for liquids with particles, such as sauces with small pieces.

  • Advantages:

    • Preserves the quality of the liquid.

    • Continuous flow.

    • High accuracy.

Tri-Lobe Rotor

  • Characteristics: Three lobes with a rounded shape.

  • Applications:

    • Suitable for liquids with medium to high viscosity, such as creams, lotions, or gels. Used in processes requiring consistent pumping.

  • Advantages:

    • Improves flow efficiency.
    • Reduces pump vibration.

Butterfly Rotor

  • Characteristics: The impeller has a thin, tapered shape similar to a butterfly wing.

  • Applications:

    • Suitable for shear-sensitive liquids such as milk, yogurt, or vaccines. Used in processes where maintaining the quality of the liquid is crucial.

  • Advantages:

    • Reduces shear force applied to the liquid.
    • Ideal for liquids requiring high cleanliness standards.

Multi-Lobe Rotor (ใบพัดหลายแฉก)

  • Characteristics: The impeller has 4 or more lobes with a complex shape.

    Applications:

    • Suitable for low to medium viscosity liquids such as fruit juices, milk, or medical solutions.
    • Used in processes that require low to medium pressure.

    Advantages:

    • Provides a smooth and consistent flow.
    • Reduces energy loss.

Gearbox Assembly of the Pump: The gearbox is responsible for driving the pump impellers.

It contains a mechanical seal that prevents leakage.

The gearbox requires lubrication oil, but it must not allow any oil to mix with the liquid being pumped.

If there is a seal failure, the oil will leak out without contaminating the fluid. In addition to the mechanical seal, the gearbox also contains bearings, drive gears, and various O-rings.

Principle

  • A lobe pump, also known as a rotary pump, operates similarly to a gear pump with two gears, but it uses only 1 to 4 lobes for the impeller. The lobes are arranged in a stacked, two-layer configuration and rotate in opposite directions to push the liquid forward.

  • The pump has an inlet and outlet designed with ferrules and Tri clamps, making it easy to detach and assemble, reducing the risk of liquid contamination.

  • The front cover assembly of the lobe pump is designed to seal the pump and keep the liquid inside. This cover must be easy to remove and assemble for regular cleaning. The front cover includes an O-ring made from Viton material, which can withstand high temperatures, and the cover is typically made of stainless steel.

  • The mechanical seal system prevents leakage of the liquid from the pump. The mechanical seal must be able to withstand high temperatures, as the lobe pump may require cleaning with hot water after each use. It must also be durable to resist wear and tear in cases where the liquid contains sediment.

  • The motor drives the gear set, which in turn powers the internal gearbox of the lobe pump, causing the impellers to move. The rotation speed of the gears depends on the viscosity of the liquid being pumped.

Applications of Lobe Pump:

Applications of Ligao Lobe Pump:

Ligao Lobe Pump is designed for use in various industries, including:

  1. Food and Beverage Industry:

    • For transferring viscous liquids such as sauces, honey, and creams.
    • For pumping shear-sensitive fluids like milk, fruit juice, or yogurt.
  2. Pharmaceutical Industry:

    • For transporting solutions that require high purity, such as vaccines, biological substances, or special extracts.
  3. Cosmetic Industry:

    • For pumping high-viscosity mixtures such as lotions, gels, or creams.
  4. Chemical Industry:

    • For transferring chemicals sensitive to contamination or those requiring precise flow control.

The Ligao Lobe Pump is ideal for ensuring precise flow rates while preserving the integrity of the fluids being transferred.
